Graduation @ ARC

Chris decided to walk about a week before graduation! Him and his study group were able to all be together, which made the ceremony more fun for them. It was a very windy day, and caps were flyin everywhere! See all the little RN's on their caps?

Dinner @ Paul Martins

I think Chris said it best in his speech. (The last line)
"And to all of those that helped us through the years, you now have your family member back!" (We couldn't be more thrilled!)
We drove up to Paul Martin's in Roseville for a celebration dinner.
Shari, Amanda, and Adam enjoying their dinner.

All the nurses present: Robin, Kim, Mom, Wynt, Chris, Janet, Suzie, and Shari. too bad it's a little blurry. That is a lot of nursing experience: a rough guess at: 75 years of nursing between everyone! Wowsers. Not a bad place to have a health issue! Just kidding.
Kim stopped by on her break to help us celebrate! Wish you could have stayed longer, but it was great to see ya.
Lois, Jim, and Granny came to show their support for Chris.
Carolyn (Same kidney transplant friend) came to celebrate. This last year, Chris, Carolyn, and I have randomly enjoyed yogurt at Big Spoon as well as friday nights at the Baker's. It is nice to have such a nice friend only a mile away!
Elise (7 weeks) and Mathew (16 weeks) would be interesting in the ring. Just kidding. Mathew has the smile down, and giggle, as well as some crazy arm motions like the macarena. Elise is good at a slight smile, sleeping, and keeping mommy up through the night.

Robin and Rich
Paul and Sharon
Chris and Suzie- LVN turned RN this last year.
Papa can't get enough of that babe!
Dave, Wynt, Erik, Dad, and Elise.
Whew! A celebration was had by all. Thank you all for coming and also for your support through the years. Who knew getting an education would
1. Take this long
2. lend to sacrificing moments to studying
3. be this rewarding (when you are done!!)

After the Pinning Ceremony

A very windy day, indeed. I guess you could say the wind was blowing the stress, build-up, and gotta-study attidude away.

The nurses!

Chris and his study group posed for a silly pic. Guess you could say they were flying away too! What a nice release of stress! So much commitment and accomplishments in a short amount of time!

The Pinning Ceremony

May 20th, 2008. The day that we have been waiting for for so long was here! Chris was nervous at home all day while I had by first day at Sutter Roseville. They let me go home early that day to enjoy the festivities. Chris's speech turned out very very AWESOME! I am thinking about you-tubing it so that all can see what a great job he did. Whew! When that was over, he let out a sigh of relief and enjoyed the rest of the ceremony.
Got his pin on!

Although there were many many children who seemed to be very unhappy during the ceremony, Mathew was an ANGEL! He slept through most of the ceremony and did not contribute to the extra noise.

Chris- Congrats! You made it through being surrounded by mostly women for 2 years. That in itself is a great accomplishment (Not to down grade women, but that is a challenge, we know that!) Also, all of the studying that lead to A's really solidified your efforts. But I am sure glad that phase is over! (as you are!)

Ho-Down

Celebrating Robin's birthday with a country flair! A co-worker and friend of Chris's invited us to her ho-down 40th birthday party in their barn. This was no usual ho-down, as there was catered BBQ food, DJ's, and drinks galore. Not to mention an energetic host with a passion for dancing and country music. They are building this over 2500 sq. ft barn on their property. A perfect setting for a warm country night in Auburn.
Jeremy and Chris making sure the hay doesn't blow away while the girls are dancing.
Chris and I brought Robin a pinata filled with country do-dads from the dollar tree. We left the fleet-enemas at home due to the potential for squirting someone's eye out!
The macarena came back BIG that night! Thank you for inviting us to this great party.

Mother's Day Continues

Chris's mom came to stay with us for 10 days to get some Kaiser hours. It worked out well for mother's day too. She of course worked in the morning. But we got home from our day in Placerville and she was here. We made some chicken ceasar salad, and took her to see Made of Honor at the movies. They laughed at me for taking this picture at the movies, but ya gotta document!

We enjoyed having you around, Janet. It was nice to have someone home with me when Chris was gone. Thanks for being such a good momma B and mom!

Mother's Day

We celebrated the Mommas at Grammy's house. We decided on a Pot-luck brunch. We all made it! It was an absolute beautiful day. One of those 80 degree days with some breeze mixed in. Elise Kay enjoying the patio.
The boys finished the day with some football and air-soft gun shooting.
Almost sweaty enough to break out the slip-n-slide.

Court made it up the hill for the weekend.

Thanks for being the camera-man. Grammy is trying not to be in the picture, but she made it in! Thank you Mom's for all of your sacrifices and lessons.

Backpacking!!

I scored and got 2 vacation weeks from my internship. These were the final two weeks of Chris's nursing school, though. I do not plan on taking any time off after I complete the internship, so I made the most of my time and had some cost-effective good times!
My girlfriend (and co-intern) Jamie has NEVER been camping before. That is my middle name, so I have been wanting to take her for a few years now. She also had some time off, so I decided to take her backpacking. We were just going overnight, so we went to Point Reyes. Just s quick 2.25 hour drive from Sacramento, and we were there. The hike in was a challenging 6.3 mile hike that seemed to be 3/4 uphill. It seemed odd to be climbing closer to the ocean, but we went with it. 2 1/2 hours later.... we made it to camp. These sites had a storage locker, trash, and bathrooms. (Nice to not have to hike out all of your stuff!) We set our stuff down and went down to the ocean. It was breezy but gorgeous.
When we returned, our tent had decided to act like a sail. (Can't remember everything, ok? The stakes were still at home. I didn't say that camping was my first name!) We moved some large rocks in the tent with us to act as an anchor against the wind. I would definately go camping with Jamie again. She brought fresh herbs and mire-poix to mix in with our canned chicken and pre-cooked brown rice! Points to the newbie!
We saw quite a bit of wildlife. We were greeted on the trail by lizards, and vulchers. We saw gophers that looked like mice on steroids. We saw a bobcat and rabbit. The deer on the beach was a nice touch, and we saw whales in the morning!
Packed up and hiking out. Jamie is in great shape, so she was a good hiking companion. She didn't do anything too silly for her first time. I just gave her a few friendly reminders about closing the tent, and she did have a run-in with water. We didn't bring pillows, so Jam decided to use her camel-bak as one. We heard a Glug-Glug, and yep, it popped and leaked all in the tent! Those dish towels and oven-mit that Chris laughed at me for packing sure came in handy when we were sopping up the water at 10:30 at night. I was a goof too, given my stake forgetting moment. Chris's LED headlamp was out, so all we had for light was one of those shake and power flashlights. We had a great time, and make it back to the car safe and sound and SORE!
Wildcat Camp, a beautiful meadow on the ocean.

Common Thread

No Pictures for this post, just a quick "true" blog!
Notice that Chris and I are rarely together in these pictures. My schedule has been fairly regular, Monday-Friday 8-5 with 2-3 clients a week after my "day job". Chris however, has been working his normal shifts (3-4 a week) 2-11pm, plus (2-4) nursing school shifts that have been anywhere attached to his normal shift. He has been doing many doubles (Meaning starting at 6am and getting home around 12am). So, we have not been seeing too much of each other. Every 9 days he gets a full day off. His hard work will pay off soon! This last semester, when you would think we would have it down by now, has been the hardest on us, just do to the fact that we haven't seen much of each other. But, it has been fairly short term.
In the meantime, life goes on. I can't do too much for him, staying at home waiting for him (Besides laundry and groceries) so off I go!!!

Aptos and Capitola for a Therapeutic Weekend

Mom, Aunt Kim, and I set out to support Cousin Jackie in her beginnings of her chemotherapy treatment. The day she started, we left town and drove to Aptos. After going the wrong direction for 10 minutes and turning back around, we made pretty good time. (You are really out of luck on 5 if you need a turn around in some areas!) Jackie felt pretty good, so we went out to walk around Capitola. Garret was having a blast running around and being the free-spirited kid that he is. (He's 6)
It was GORGEOUS weather down there, just right when it was starting to warm up in Sacramento.
We went to Garret's baseball game and relaxed on the grass.
Jackie took us to her friend's garden that was all deer-proofed. Thus, she had some amazing flowers, vegetables, herbs, and trees. It seems like flowers crave that ocean climate--hard to reproduce up here.
We went out walking for over an hour down the Aptos trail along the ocean. We checked out the cement ship, and got some exercise at the same time.
If we are together, you know we are drinking tea! Especially in that sleepy time of afternoon. Capitola has some great little tea houses/cafes.
We frequented Jackie and Jeff's restaurant- Cafe Rio.
We enjoyed a dinner and lunch there. Great seafood and right on the ocean. Check them out if you are going to Monterey, Aptos, Capitola, or Santa Cruz. It is right off of the freeway.
So relaxing for us. We went down to support, help, and be with Jackie, but we also did some relaxing ourselves. These weren't our chairs, but they are cute and inviting.
The Best Western was really nice. Let me re-phrase that. The GROUNDS of the Best Western were really nice. A large coy pond, waterfall, and fountains all around were very peaceful. The 4 young boys under 8 years of age staying next door were not very peaceful however. We switched our room for the second night for a better night's sleep.

All in all, we had a great time with Jackie. We felt like we helped, by making dinner, taking Garret for the day, and being there. She helped us more that we helped her. Thinking about you Jackie, and pray that you have a strong recovery.
